Box Office: ‘Solo’ And ‘Justice League’s Failures Killed The Cinematic Universe

Good riddens

Marvel has done the work and earned the goodwill so that all of its movies are relative event flicks for general moviegoers and fans. Conversely, the Dark Universe or Amazing Spider-Man 2 or Solo were expected to be treated like events specifically because of their promised interconnectivity. But by promising more franchise installments on a regular basis, you’re diluting the brand and making your movies less special and less of an event. A Transformers movie once every three years is something that folks don’t mind blowing $10 on for 2.5 hours every three summers. But tell them that there will be a Transformers movie every year, or a Star Wars movie every year, and watch those grosses plummet.
